Horticulture Research Station, Tidagundi

Horticulture Research Station, Tidagundi was established on 09.09.2002 under the administrative control of University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. This research station has been transferred to University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot on April, 2009.

The research station is located on National highway No. 13, which is 20 km. away from Bijapur on the way to Solapur. It comes under Northern dry zone of Karnataka. The station is geographically situated at a latitude of 16⁰ 49′ North and longitude 75⁰ 43′ East.

The total area of the farm is 20.25 ha. The soils are shallow with medium Black colour. The pH range is 7.5 to 8.5. The mandate crops are Grape, Pomegranate, Acid lime and Arid Fruit crops.

Objectives:

Following are the important objectives,

 

• Collection, conservation and evaluation of important fruit crops like Pomegranate, Grapes, citrus fruits like Kagzi lime and Kinnow mandarin.
• Collection, conservation and evaluation of different arid fruit crops like Custard apple, Fig, Jamun etc. and vegetables like drumstick, cucurbits and curry leaf.
• Studies to minimize the post-harvest losses of different fruit crops through different packages and chemicals..
• Transfer of proven technology in horticulture crops to the farming community through trainings, group meetings and crop seminars.

 

RKVY project:

A project was Sanctioned under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) to HRS, Bijapur (Tidagundi) on “Advanced centre on the management of diseases of horticultural crops with special reference to grapes, pomegranate and acid lime”. The amount sanctioned is Rs. 2.54 crores to establish diagnostic lab for detection of diseases and pests, to demonstrate the technique on management of pests and diseases and also popularisation of proven technologies on management of diseases and insect pests in grapes, pomegranate and acid lime.

Achievements:

 

• In dry lands, after two years of planting of mango, formation of 5% inward circular basins along with locally available materials helps in conserving soil moisture and increased yield (Plate –29 and 30).
• Application of 5 kg vermicompost per plant saves 25 % of recommended dose of fertilizers in mango.
• Growing of groundnut and sunflower as intercrops in mango orchard increased the net income.
• Groundnut and sunflower can be grown as intercrops in sapota orchard in dry lands.
• Inject dichlorovos 76 EC @ 80 ml/l of water with the help of squeeze bottle in to the live hole on the grape stem until the tunnel is completely filled and then closing the hole with wet mud would manage the stem borer in grape effectively.
